The IEEE Latin America Conference on Communications 2009 (LATINCOM2009) and 3th IEEE Colombian Communications Conference 2009 (COLCOM2009) will allow academic and industrial community to show their advances in communications. LATINCOM was established to be the ComSoc Latin America Region on Communications and will be held jointly with COLCOM in 2009. It will also open space for the discussion on the impact of the communications in the region. The main theme of LATINCOM 2009 will be “Digital Cities” and how communications and related areas can support this concept.

• 2009 Latin America Region Distinguished Service Award

It is my pleasure to announce that Jose David Cely, University Distrital, Bogota, Colombia won the 2009 Latin America Region Distinguished Service Award.

The award was created to recognize professionals in evidence of significant contribution to the development of IEEE Communications Society activities in the Latin America Region.
